Job Summary
Financial Aid Counselor provides direct support to the Director of Financial Aid in administration of MTSA graduate student financial aid and provides excellent customer service and guidance to the financial aid applicants. This position determines eligibility within the parameters of institutional, state and federal requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- Two (2) years of experience in student financial aid, in a financial field or higher-ed preferred
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as in ability to effectively relate to students, staff, faculty, and the community
- High competency of computer skills
Responsibilities
- Provides advising, financial aid counseling and problem resolution services (office visits, phone calls and emails) to current and prospective students
- Utilizes federal online services and MTSA data system, in connection with IT Dept, to perform job responsibilities
- Assists in creating and maintaining accurate and current student financial aid files
- Assists in awarding, monitoring and authorizing federal and private loans
- Assists in working with the students receiving Military Benefits. Inputting awards, is liaison between the Financial Aid Office and Veterans Affairs
- Assists in coordinating the compliance of MTSA’s Federal Consumer Information, in cooperation with other departments
- Maintains student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA regulations
- Maintains knowledge of policies of other departments (student support services, business office, etc.)
- Participation in state, regional and national professional development activities to ensure a complete understanding of federal regulations and remain current on the changes to the programs
- Assists with various other projects and events as assigned by Director of Financial Aid or Vice President for Finance & Administration
